About the event

Join us at August Muse for a creative and hands-on Batik art class led by local artist Christy Ward! Batik is a traditional technique where hot wax is applied to fabric in a design, serving as a resist to create stunning patterns and effects. This method allows for layering different colors, resulting in a beautiful, multi-dimensional piece of art.

In this class, you will:

  • Learn the Batik Technique: Discover the art of applying hot wax to fabric to create a resist, preventing dye from reaching certain areas.
  • Experiment with Colors: Explore how to layer different dyes to achieve a unique and vibrant landscape design.
  • Create Your Own Handkerchief: By the end of the class, you’ll have a beautiful, personalized landscape handkerchief to take home.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Batik is the effect created by the wax cracking during handling—whether intentional or not—which adds a unique, organic texture to your design.

No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. Just bring your creativity and get ready to dive into this captivating art form!

🎟️ Cost: $50
