Updated: Apr 29, 2023

Elizabethton, TN is a town with a rich history of the arts. From music to painting, this small community has always had a strong appreciation for artistic expression. It is no surprise then that the community has come together to create Arts in Action, an event that celebrates the arts in Elizabethton. ElizAlliance has partnered with local groups, local artists and downtown businesses to make this event a reality.

On Saturday, May 6th, 2023, from 4-7PM, find yourself on a self-guided tour along Elk Ave downtown Elizabethton to meet local artists, watch local performances, or join a photo scavenger hunt. The event will be held in partnership with local artists and downtown businesses.

"Our goal is to build community through the arts," said Paula Augustine, owner of August Muse, a retail space dedicated to empowering the arts in Elizabethton. "We want to showcase the amazing talent we have in our town and encourage everyone to get involved."

Businesses host Local Artists Open Studio in stores

Eight different businesses along Elk Ave will host artists, allowing participants to meet the artists as they work. This self-guided tour along Elk Ave is an opportunity to visit the local stores and watch artists as they work. Participants can even take part in painting a community art piece. The businesses will open their doors and allow artists to work on their craft in-store, giving visitors a first-hand look at the creative process. This is a chance for the community to connect with the artists and learn about their work.

Watch live performances

In addition to the open studios, Arts in Action will feature live performances. The event space at Building 520 will host storytellers, dance performances, and a Readers Theater. Attendees will have the chance to enjoy local performances and experience the talent of their community.

Join a photo scavenger hunt

For those that love a good challenge, Arts in Action will also host a photo scavenger hunt. Participants can take photos based on clues and enter them on Facebook. A random comment picker will choose from all entrants. Each photo comment is an entry. This is a great opportunity for attendees to explore the community and engage with the event in a fun and exciting way.

Free Event for the entire Family

This free event is a unique opportunity to engage with the local art scene in Elizabethton. Arts in Action is just one of many projects sponsored by ElizAlliance to promote the arts in Elizabethton. The event is open to all members of the community, regardless of previous experience with the arts.
